Muzzle Training

Muzzle training can be beneficial for multiple reasons. Whether you want one because your dog is a bite risk, a scavenger, fearful, you want it for vet visits, or even if it’s just a precaution, muzzle training can be beneficial for all dogs. Multiple people will say “oh but my dog would never bite.” At the end of the day, all dogs could be pushed to the point of biting if put into that position. An example I like to think of is if they’re injured. Some dogs will resort to biting if they’re in an incredible amount of pain.  In those stressful situations, having a muzzle they’re comfortable with can take away any added stress.

There are many different types of muzzles, each of them with their unique pros and cons. There are biothane, wire, vinyl, etc. Many different options you can explore to find what best suits your dogs specific needs! Finding the size and style muzzle that works best can be overwhelming, as there are so many options. Muzzle training and tips is a website with all the muzzle information you would ever need! They have information on reasons to muzzle, how to measure your dog, the pros and cons of all muzzle styles, how it should fit, ways to modify and secure it if needed, and a lot more information on top of that!

They also have a help form if you want their expertise in picking a size. Submitting a form only costs a couple of dollars. You give them all your dogs measurements, some photos, and what you’re looking for in a muzzle. In return they will message you with what brands and sizes they recommend. This is an incredibly helpful resource, as it can be overwhelming to figure out on your own. It doesn’t help that a lot of muzzle companies’ sizing charts are not as accurate or useful, leaving the dog with an uncomfortable fit, not enough pant room, etc. The small price is definitely worth getting a good, comfortably fitting muzzle!
